We Made The Most Of International Women’s Day!

International Women’s Day (IWD) was celebrated on March 8th and has been observed since the early 1900’s, a time a time of expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies.

This year’s IWD Theme is “Make It Happen!” with a strong call to action to make an impact on women’s rights and celebrate women’s achievements.  This theme strongly aligns with WINiT’s mission of: “Awareness – Inclusion – Action – Impact”.

In conjunction with the 59th session of the United Nations’ Commission on the Status of Women, Secretary Hillary Clinton, Chelsea Clinton and Melinda Gates will launch the No Ceilings Full Participation Report on Monday, March 9th in New York City.

The No Ceilings Full Participation Report is the culmination of a year-long, global data aggregation effort by the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, in collaboration with The Economist Intelligence Unit, UCLA WORLD Policy Analysis Center and Fathom Information Design. The report identifies the significant gains women and girls have made – and the gaps that still remain – since the U.N. Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995, when Secretary Clinton called on the international community to ensure “women’s rights are human rights.” The data visualizations will highlight key findings from the data through interactive stories, as well as allow users the ability to explore the data on their own.

We are delighted to share that our WINiT Founder, Michelle (Mick) Lee has been invited to attend this prestigious and influential event based on the progress of WINiT in having a voice in making full participation a reality for women and girls.

In the spirit “Make it Happen”, and the ability to impact women and girls rights around the world, WINiT is conducting a daily campaign to raise awareness on this much needed topic and issue.  So we ask you:

  • What leaders (women and men) in your network come to mind when you think about support of women and those who “Make it Happen”?
  • What small thing can we each do daily (women and men) in order to support Awareness of WINiT?
  • What does the word Inclusion mean to you?
  • What does the word Action mean to you as it pertains to WINiT or supporting women in your network?
  • If Mick has the opportunity for another 1:1 with Secretary Clinton or engages with Chelsea Clinton or Melinda Gates, what question do you want her to ask on your behalf?

Let’s Make It Happen – Let’s WINiT!

On a separate note, the last week was incredibly productive with the European launch of WINiT at the Business Travel Show (BTS) in London.

This opportunity was created by Patricia Gardiner and the WINiT panel and WINiT Booth were hosted by Sam Cande and the BTS. Thanks to the sponsorship by American Airlines, The Luxury Hotels Group and TriStar our WINiT representatives Michelle (Mick) Lee, WINiT Founder, Dawn Repoli, Director of Program Management and Lynn Grossi, Event Coordinator were able to attend the conference and hold a WINiT reception.

The conference was attended by over 7,000 buyers and suppliers in the industry and WINiT held a Leadership Panel which included Mick, Dawn and Patricia, along with Ron Dileo (Altour) and Elyes Mrad (American Express Global Business Travel).

WINiT received a very warm welcome and the team was incredibly impressed with the show.  In the span of 2 days, WINiT reached more contacts in the region then could have been accomplished in months if done separately.  If you haven’t been to the BTS recently to grow your business, you need to attend!
